At Head & Heart Health and Wellness we offer two types of chemical peels, Biorepeel and VI Peel, to improve skin texture, tone, and overall appearance. While they share some similarities, they also have key differences in their formulations, techniques, and specific benefits.
Biorepeel
Description: Biorepeel is a unique two-phase, biostimulating, and bio-revitalizing peel that combines chemical exfoliation with skin rejuvenation properties. It typically contains a mixture of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs) along with amino acids, vitamins, and other active ingredients.
Key Features:
- Composition: Contains lactic acid, salicylic acid, and a blend of active ingredients like vitamins and amino acids designed to revitalize the skin.
- Mechanism: The dual-phase action provides both superficial exfoliation and deep stimulation, promoting cell turnover and enhancing skin quality.
- Treatment Areas: Suitable for various areas of the body, including the face, neck, and hands.
- Benefits:
- Improves overall skin texture and tone.
- Reduces signs of aging, fine lines, and wrinkles.
- Helps with acne and post-acne scars.
- Provides a glowing appearance.
- Downtime: Minimal downtime, with patients often able to return to normal activities shortly after the treatment. Some mild redness or flaking may occur.
VI Peel
Description: The VI Peel is a medium-depth chemical peel that typically contains a blend of trichloroacetic acid (TCA), salicylic acid, phenol, and retinoic acid. The VI Peel is designed to provide deeper exfoliation and can effectively target more significant skin concerns.
Key Features:
- Composition: Contains a combination of TCA, salicylic acid, and phenol, along with additional ingredients to enhance penetration and effectiveness.
- Mechanism: The deeper penetration of the ingredients affects the middle layers of the skin, leading to more significant exfoliation and rejuvenation.
- Treatment Areas: Primarily used on the face, but can also be applied to the neck and other areas as needed.
- Benefits:
- Improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sun damage.
- Reduces hyperpigmentation, including melasma and age spots.
- Helps to clear acne and acne scars.
- Enhances skin texture and tone.
- Downtime: Moderate downtime, with patients typically experiencing peeling and redness for several days after the procedure (usually 5-7 days). The days with the greatest amount of peeling are usually days 3-5.

VI PEEL GENERAL AFTERCARE
The following are just general VI peel considerations. The app and the handout in your aftercare kit has more specific instructions based upon the specific peel you have done.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
• You cannot have a VI Peel if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• You cannot have a VI Peel if you have active herpes (cold sore) on the lips.
• You must avoid sun exposure or tanning beds for 2 weeks before and after a VI Peel.
PREPARING FOR TREATMENT
• To maximize the benefits and results from your VI Peel, it is recommended that you begin a complete skin care regimen.
• Discontinue using skincare products containing retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or hydroquinone at least 1 week prior to your procedure.
• If you are taking Accutane, you must discontinue its use at least 6 months prior to having a VI Peel.
• If you have a history of “cold sores,” please let your provider know. Medication can be prescribed to minimize the possibility of a flare up following your treatment.
• Do not have waxing, electrolysis, microdermabrasion, laser, or any other procedures in the treatment area at least 1 week prior to your VI Peel.
POST TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
• After the VI Peel has been applied, nothing is to be applied to the skin for the first 4 hours.
• Use only post care products given to you at the time of service for at least 1 week post peel or until peeling has resolved.
• Follow instructions from your provider on when to resume your regular skin care routine.
• Avoid sun exposure and use mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide every day.
• Do not pick at or pull off flaking skin, as this could result in scarring.
• Some patients may experience erythema (redness), tightness, minor swelling and/or peeling of the superficial layer of the skin following a chemical peel. These effects usually last a few days to 1 week.
• No activities involving excessive sweating can be done for 72-96 hours (exercise, sauna, hot tub, steam room).
