Microchanneling with skin boosters is an advanced skincare treatment that combines the concept of microneedling with the infusion of hydrating and nourishing serums (often referred to as skin boosters) directly into the skin. This technique enhances the skin’s health and appearance by promoting rejuvenation and hydration simultaneously.
Key Aspects of Microchanneling with Skin Boosters:
- Microchanneling is very similar to microneedling – microchanneling goes less deep into the skin and therefore has less downtime. Collagen production is increased with microchanneling, but to my knowledge, there are no studies proving that microneedling can increase collagen at the same levels as microneedling.
- A specialized device with fine needles (similar to a microneedle) creates tiny channels in the skin. These channels allow for better absorption of the skin boosters.
- Skin Booster: specialized dermal treatments designed to enhance the effects of microneedling by providing the skin with vital nutrients, hydration, and regenerative properties.
- Exosomes: Exosomes are tiny vesicles that carry growth factors and signaling molecules, promoting cellular communication and repair. Using exosomes during microneedling can enhance healing, improve skin texture and elasticity, and support overall skin rejuvenation.
- Targeted Concerns:
- Dehydrated Skin: Improves hydration levels significantly.
- Skin Texture and Tone: Enhances texture, firmness, and overall skin tone.
- Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Reduces the appearance of aging.
- Acne Scars and Marks: Can improve the appearance of scars and blemishes.
- Dullness: Revitalizes and brightens the skin.
- Downtime:
- After the treatment, patients may experience some redness and swelling, similar to that of a mild sunburn. This typically lasts for a few hours and may persist for up to 48 hours, depending on individual skin sensitivity. However, most people feel like their skin returns to normal, just with a enhanced glow by the evening of the procedure.
- Most people feel comfortable returning to normal activities within 24 to 48 hours. However, it is advisable to avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun exposure, and certain skincare products (like retinoids or exfoliants) for a few days following the procedure.
Recommended enhancing services:
- Aftercare options/kits are available
- LED light – can be done in office or we have Omnilux red light masks available for purchase
- Sheet mask to apply the evening of treatment
- Skincare products to enhance results and skin health
- Immune boost/anti-inflammatory IV can be infused during that treatment to help with recovery time and swelling
- Immune Boost IM injection can be done to help with inflammation
- CO2 Lift Mask
MICROCHANNELING PRE-TREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS
Plan to go directly home and minimize any errands following the treatment as you will need to avoid sun exposure (and you will not be able to apply sunscreen/makeup the day of the treatment).
Avoid unprotected sun exposure or sunburn for at least 24 hours prior to your treatment. A microchanneling treatment will not be administered on sunburned skin.
No waxing, bleaching creams, or electrolysis to the area being treated for 5-7 days prior.
If you’re prone to cold sores, take an antiviral agent for 2 days prior to and the day of the treatment.
Avoid blood-thinning agents* (Aspirin, Fish Oils, Vitamin E, Blood Thinning Medications, etc.) for one week prior because bruising is a common side effect.
*Important Note: Always consult your doctor prior to starting or stopping any supplements or medications.
Do not consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising).
Discontinue use of Retinol 2 days prior to treatment.
If you are planning to receive Botox or Filler, make sure that you give yourself at least 2 weeks post-injections before receiving your microchanneling procedure.
MICROCHANNELING POST TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Right after microchanneling, you can expect your skin to look pink or red. The degree of redness can vary based on a person’s natural response to treatment. You can expect mild swelling and a tight, warm sensation similar to a mild sunburn that may last 4-24 hours.
Mild skin sloughing or flaking may occur for a few days after treatment.
Mild acne and milia can occur in rare cases. Don’t pick and they’ll go away in a few days.
Trans-Epidermal Water Loss (dehydration) is a common temporary side effect and could leave you feeling dry throughout the first week.
Pinpoint marks may be visible on the skin, these generally look like tiny flecks of redness and may last anywhere from 4-72 hours.
Post-Treatment Care
For the first 90 minutes, don’t touch the face and avoid sun exposure.
Do not apply any skincare products or makeup to the skin after the treatment until you perform your PM skincare routine before bed (see below for recommended instructions).
Avoid exposure to pet dander and other irritants as best you can. You may experience a mild allergic reaction to pets and other things you typically do not react to within the first 24 hours.
Use aftercare as instructed by your provider.
Avoid sweating for the first 24 hours (No gym, sauna, swimming, spicy food, exercise, etc.)
Avoid direct sunlight for at least 7 days. Ensure you have proper sun protection whenever you are out in the sun.
Avoid makeup for at least 12 hours after the procedure. Sanitize makeup brushes before using them.
