OPTIONS:
WITH MICRONEEDLING – EXOSOMES, PRP/PRF, OR PDGF
WITH INJECTIONS – PRP/PRF OR PDGF
When it comes to hair restoration, there are two common approaches to treatment: microneedling (with PRP/PRF, PDGF, exosomes or any combo) and injections (with PRP/PRF or PDGF or any combo). Here’s a breakdown of the differences between these two methods:
Microneedling for Hair Restoration
- Mechanism of Action:
- The micro-injuries trigger the body’s healing processes, leading to increased collagen and elastin production.
- When combined with topical agents, it boosts the effectiveness of those treatments as the micro-channels created during microneedling enhance absorption dramatically.
- Benefits:
- Microneedling can improve scalp health, enhance the effectiveness of applied growth factors, and stimulate hair follicles for natural hair growth.
- This method may also improve scalp texture and overall hair strength.
Injections for Hair Restoration
Injections involve administering PRP/PRF and/or PDGF directly into the scalp.
- Mechanism of Action:
- The injected PRP/PRF and/or PDGF directly stimulate hair follicles, promoting hair growth and reducing hair thinning. PRP/PRF and/or PDGF contain growth factors that help activate and rejuvenate dormant hair follicles.
- Benefits:
- Injections provide a concentrated dose of growth factors directly where they are needed, potentially leading to quicker and more noticeable results in promoting hair regrowth.
- This method can effectively target areas of thinning hair and help restore density.
Both microneedling and injections are effective methods for hair restoration, and they can even be used in combination for enhanced results. Microneedling boosts overall scalp health and optimizes absorption of treatments, while injections provide a direct boost of growth factors to stimulate hair follicles. The best approach depends on individual needs, goals, and professional recommendations
When combined with techniques like Exosomes, Platelet-Rich Plasma/Fibrin (PRP/PRF), and PDGF the results can be significantly enhanced. Here’s an overview of the options available:
PRP/PRF and PDGF
How It Works:
- PRP is derived from your own blood. After a blood draw, the sample is processed to concentrate the platelets, which are rich in growth factors that promote healing and tissue regeneration.
- PDGF requires no blood draw. PDGF occurs naturally and helps promote skin rejuvenation. The PDGF used in our clinic uses recombinant technology to produce a sterile, pharmaceutical-grade PDGF product. PDGF contains up to 300,000 times the growth factor concentration of competitive applications and is more predictable than using your own blood prodcuts. This incredible potency means results may be obtained with fewer applications.
Can be injected directly into the scalp or used with microneedling: growth factors in PRP/PRF or PDGF stimulate hair follicle activity, encourage new hair growth, improve hair density, reduce shedding, and improve the health of existing hair. The use of PRP/PRF and/or PDGF used amplifies the results by enhancing the healing and regenerative processes.
Exosomes
How It Works: Exosomes are tiny vesicles secreted by cells that contain proteins, lipids, and genetic material. They play a significant role in cellular communication and can promote healing and regeneration.
Combination with Microneedling: When combined with microneedling, exosomes can be applied directly to the scalp after the procedure. They deliver a powerful dose of growth factors and signaling molecules that stimulate hair follicles and enhance their growth potential.
Exosomes cannot be directly injected into the scalp and can only be used with microneedling.
Benefits: Exosome therapy is known for its regenerative properties and ability to improve hair thickness and overall scalp health. This method can provide faster and more noticeable results compared to PRP alone, as exosomes often contain a broader spectrum of growth factors and proteins. Exosomes and microneedling work synergistically to enhance the healing process, promote hair follicle regeneration, and improve overall scalp health.

Hair Restoration PRE-TREATMENT CARE
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate – especially if doing PRP/PRF! Drink at least 64 oz of water and eat a good snack before coming to prepare for the blood draw.
You may consider taking 2000 mg of Vitamin C daily before your treatment to help improve the quality of PRP/PRF. It also may aid in recovery time. The earlier you start, the better!
If you develop a fever, cold, or flu symptoms, or develop a cold sore, blemish, or rash, etc. in the area to be treated prior to your appointment, you must reschedule (we will not treat you).
Discontinue the use of anti-inflammatory drugs (steroidal and non-steroidal) such as Aspirin, Motrin (or any other Ibuprofen drugs) at least 3 days to 1 week before your treatment. With PRP/PRF, we “want” inflammation as this is one of the mechanisms of how PRP/PRF does its work. If you are or have been on systemic use of corticosteroids (steroids) within 2 weeks of treatment, we cannot treat you. Consult your physician for approval to discontinue the use of steroids and receive treatment.
Discontinue use of any other blood thinning agents such as Vitamin E, Vitamin A,
Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s and DHA’s), garlic supplements etc. at least 3 days to 1 week before and after treatment to minimize bruising and bleeding.
It is recommended that you avoid: Alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, spicy foods, and cigarettes 3 days before and after your treatment. (All of these may increase the risk of bruising).
Get adequate rest the night before your procedure.
You may consider engaging in light exercise or physical activity before your visit to improve blood circulation.
Hair Restoration POST-TREATMENT CARE
Avoid NSAIDs (ibuprofen, Aleve, naproxen, aspirin) the day of your procedure
If you experience discomfort, you can use ice or take Tylenol.
It is fine to shampoo the hair gently the same day as your procedure. Do not dye your hair for 24 hours after.
The areas treated may be tender to touch for up to 72 hours.
You may notice some bruising in the areas where there were injections, this is normal and will resolve in 1-2 week.
